Vehicle Armoring

Vehicle Armoring is a retrofit solution for vehicles to make vehicles withstand the impact of shrapnel, bullets, missiles, or shells, protecting the personnel inside from enemy fire. Such vehicles also include tanks, aircraft, and ships.

Armored vehicles also include cars used by reporters, officials and others in conflict zones or where violent crimes are common and presidential vehicles. Armored cars are also routinely used by security firms to carry money or valuables to reduce the risk of highway robbery or the hijacking of the cargo.

The design and purpose of the vehicle determines the amount of armor plating carried, but the weight and mobility are kept as prime concerns.

Also all glass in the vehicle is replaced by bullet proof glass which results in appearance and light-transmitting behavior of standard glass but offers varying degrees of protection against arms. For cars and trucks, tires are replaced by run flat tires, which are capable of covering a total distance of 50 kms on road without tires coming out from the rim or burn. It also maintains properties of steering, maneuverability, stability or speed, without being seriously affected as per following conditions

  • 3 km at maximum speed
  • 10 km at uniform speed of 50 km/h.
  • Rest of the distance at the speed of 27 km/h

These tyres are built with stiff sidewalls that bear the weight of the vehicle even when the pressure within the tyre is gradually reduced. The sidewalls are constructed of layers of rubber that prevent the side walls from folding or creasing. The bead around the edge of the tire is also specialized to grip the wheel rim such as to avoid becoming detached from the rim.
